"I really liked Rory and I had the pleasure of meeting him at Peter Grant, our old manager's office in the early days... He came up to reception with Peter Grant and we had a good chat... I liked Rory, he was fine guitarist and singer and lovely man and I known how loved he was in Co. Cork."

Source: http://www.roryon.com/hammond.html
We were in New York and Eric Clapton gave Rory my number. He was looking for a certain guitar and asked if I had any idea where to find one. I took him to a shop on 11th street in The Bowery. On the second floor, we found exactly what Rory was looking for. We took it downstairs and I took control.....I was going to make sure we got a good deal. I told the old lady that we found this old guitar upstairs and wondered what she wanted for it. She looked at it, and then at us, and said "$500".
WELL, that stopped me in my tracks....some deal I was getting Rory!! Rory moved me aside and began to speak to her with that beautiful, thick Irish accent that could melt anyone's heart........the old lady sold the guitar to Rory for $50~

http://thecorknews.ie/articles/simply-stunning-8572
“He was a hero of mine at the time, I was completely besotted with him,” admits Wall. “I remember being 12 years-old and going to see him in concert. I just wanted to be Rory Gallagher. I even had the same guitar and amp as him, the Vox AC30.
“Then when we played Lark by the Lee and Rory Gallagher needed an amp, I was asked if he could use mine! Of course, I gave it to him.
“I still have that amp, I use it on stage to this day. I hate when people keep musical instruments as mementos, they are supposed to be played. So that amp you see on stage with us, was played by Rory Gallagher. My only regret is that I never got a photograph with him, but those were the days when people didn’t have cameras at the ready.”

http://www.wetherbynews.co.uk/lifestyle/local/gig-scene-top-rory-gallagher-tribute-at-ripley-1-5482353
from Bolan my next musical hero was Rory Gallagher, who was also Irish, and that was mostly because, well, there’s a couple of reasons: I have a cousin who is a few years older and he bought me Rory Gallagher Live In Europe 1972. I was ten at that time and that was the first album I had and because of the situation in Northern Ireland at the time, very, very few acts would come and play there and Rory Gallagher would play there every December or January, play at the Ulster Hall in Belfast. So that was the first live show that I saw and I saw him many times in Belfast over the following years. He was a big influence on me; great, great guitar player, great live performer.

Super, merci Garby!
A noter que Rory admirait Ry Cooder et Lindley:

A noter que Rory admirait Ry Cooder et Lindley:
Which guitarists do you admire?
A fairly wide variety. I like Keith Richard’s playing a lot, he’s got such a nasty, but nice technique. John Hammond too – he’s a white American blues player. Ry Cooder, David Lindley, Jeff Beck...and of course Eric Clapton. The list is endless! Buddy Guy, J.B.Hutto and lots of acoustic players like Doc Watson and Bert Jansch.

Le guitariste anglais Larry Miller évoque Rory:

"For me, my moment of inspiration was seeing Rory Gallagher live, I had never experienced anything like it;
It was so loud, so gloriously on the edge of total mayhem, yet Rory was still totally in control. How could I not do this too."

Message from Richard McDonald, Vice President of Marketing, Fender Musical Instruments
" Rory's music came along at a time when listeners were concerned whether the players really meant what they were playing. With Rory there was never any question about the conviction of his art. He wore his heart on his sleeve, even his battered Statocaster guitar was an open book, like a diary of the journey his music had taken him on.
As part of the 50th-anniversary planning we began to make a list of Stratocaster guitar players that mattered. Rory's name was always going to be on this list. With a voice that matched his explosive soulful playing and that guitar... we knew we needed to do a cool clone to pay tribute to this Irish blues-rock legend.
The Stratocaster didn't become an icon on its own. Its position is a result of the vast body of recorded music and live performances it has been a part of. Rory's war-torn axe personifies the blood, sweat and tears that go into defining yourself as a musical force. It's a huge honor to pay homage to one of the great guitarists that helped define the Fender Stratocaster as the guitar that is in it for the long haul."
