Robin Sylvester

Robin Sylvester, également un excellent bassiste (actuellement dans Ratdog) a travaillé comme ingénieur du son au Studio Tangerine.

Il a travaillé avec Rprudans la première moitié des années 70 (à partir de Deuce jusqu'à Against The Grain):



Son éducation musicale a débuté dans avec un chorale professionnelle dirigé par le compositeur Benjamin Britten.

Robin Sylvester a commencé sa carrière musicale comme ingénieur du son. Travaillant comme assistant à Abbey Road Studios quand les Beatles ont enregistré l'album du même nom. Il a été influencé par le jeu de guitare basse de Paul McCartney.

Il est venu aux États-Unis pour la première fois en 1974 comme musicien de tournée en particulier pour Dana Gillespie. Il s'installe à San Francisco vers la fin des années 70, travaillant avec Little Richard, Bob Dylan, Phil Spector, Steve Douglas, Beach Boys et Ry Cooder et part de tournée avec Billy Preston, Christine McVie, Steve Seskin et Del Shannon.

En 2003, il a été choisi pour remplacer Rob Wasserman comme bassiste dans Ratdog ; il a joué pour la première fois avec le groupe le 4 mars 2003.

Sur Rory: "AP: What was it like performing and recording with Rory Gallagher? He seems like a mysterious figure in rock history who died too soon but will be discovered and appreciated more and more with time.

RS: A great player, and one of the nicest guys you could meet. His approach was more-or-less live in the studio, so my challenges were mostly along the lines of being ready to roll when he was. On Irish Tour 74 we were working against the clock. The mobile unit declined to be present in Belfast, turned up late in Dublin (during the opening act, Thin Lizzy) and we had to nail it in one night in Cork. Fortunately [Cork was] Rory’s home town and he put out a great performance. Nevertheless we put together side 4 from bits and pieces from the sound check. That contains some once-only edits, let me tell you!

I never performed publicly with Rory, though we jammed and fooled around a bit in the studio. I like to think that somebody somewhere has sat and listened to every tape and wondered who the wild and humorous jammers were! When he added a keyboard-player he told me later that the job was almost mine — how different my life would have been! I miss him still. "

J'ai relu cette interview, qui est vraiment très intéressante sur l'enregistrement des albums studio et live.

On y apprend par exemple que Just A Little Bit est un montage réalisé par Sylvester:

Another reason they may have left off JUST A LITTLE BIT is the way we constructed it: we put sections together much like you would in Pro- Tools today, lots ofcopying and editing. The 8-track master was probably a real mess physically and a nightmare to try and mix! Sorry guys!
